Someone forgot to tell the ocean it is summer. We had a nice upwelling on the coast which brought 59-62 degree water to the beaches of San Diego. Happens most often with strong wind condtions. Offshore water is hovering around 67-68. Summer did bring the crowds to the beach, and many discoverd the joy (and pain) of nature with over 120 stingray victims in 3 days in La Jolla Shores and PB. Lots of very small (6 inch) stingrays move into shallow water in calm summer months searching for their dinner, sandcrabs. Shuffling your feet helps…but is not foolproof. If you get nailed, hot hot water will break down the toxin…and a cocktail will help ease the pain after that. Been there, done that.
Forums. Business, Surfing, Fishing, Pets, etc. You probably belong to a few hobby related forums and communicate with thousands of other like-minded people. This is another great way to generate traffic to your website, and your bottom line. If you are like me, you have a few favorite forums you read and post to. When you post, you usually have a signature line that can tell people what you do and where your website is. Don’t miss this free opportunity to reach thousands of people. But make sure you positively contribute to the site, or you will be branded as a spammer and lose all credibility and possibly be booted from the forum.
The second part of the equation is Google Analytics. It allows you track everything about your website visitors. It’s free via Google and easy to implement. The info you get from the statistics is incredible and will show you exactly where your traffic is coming from…and forums can generate some traffic!! If you are not using Google Analytics yet, you are missing a great tool and possibly lots of business! Need help? Call us at 619-709-1413 or email Sal@Fairwindsca.com
Tight lines and Fair Winds
If you live outside S. Calif., you may not have heard (much less felt it) but we got a good shaker yesterday afternoon. No damage here in San Diego but the house shook and the blinds rattled. The cat opened his eyes and went back to sleep. A new quake on a new fault….the desert felt it best. Still waiting to fall into the ocean….maybe we would get better fishing.
GUERILLA MARKETING TIPS…
Google Places – What, never heard of it? You need to check this out. It’s free and it works very well. It used to be Google’s business directory, but they recently changed it to Google Places. If your business is not listed here, you are missing a good lead generator. There is no cost and it will take you under an hour to get your business listed. The results show up on Google’s first page, often ahead of the natural search results.
YouTube – Owned by Google. Visited by millions daily. And it is the best way to host videos on the web for your site. Oh, and its FREE! Need I say more?

Summer is here in San Diego although you would never know it from our Seattle style weather….no sun on the beach for a looooong time…just clouds and drizzle. I don’t think the fish care…some beasts have been caught lately.
A 16 yr old got a 53lb yellowtail off La Jolla last week while fishing for white seabass.
A super lucky man hook a record breaking 177lb Opah in the channel between Huntington and Catalina Island..deep jig on meter marks produced a record smasher if it is certified. I saw the pictures on Bloodydecks.com….a huge Opah.
Lots of albacore tuna about 100 miles south of San Diego. 1.5 day boats are doing well. Fish should move up the line soon…mmmmmm. Some local Bluefin around the Coronados too…fast and skittish…bring your “A ” game.
That is all.
Go Padres!
Hi All,
Welcome to the first of many posts on marketing, San Diego and all things ocean and fishing. I’ll provide some insight into internet marketing and some tips to help get your website noticed. If you are here, that is a great first step. Commenting on forums and blogs with your company website and personal info in the signature is a great way to generate “warm” traffic to your site and introduce yourself to thousands of people.
Ok fish tip of the day. The yellowtail bite at the Rockpile (south of Coronado Islands) blew up on Sunday with boats scoring limits of 20lb jacks. Fishing tapered off the next day but still many yellows to be found. Heavy jigs has been the weapon of choice with them hitting live bait and surface iron also. Seems like the warmer days are getting them going. Visit www.Bloodydecks.com for great reports. Also some nice action of LJ with the spearos bringing in a 49lb PIG of a White Seabass.
